Sammanfattning

Mathematics remains one of the most challenging subjects, with a significant proportion of students failing or barely passing national exams. This study investigates whether integrating artificial intelligence (AI) and gamification into a digital learning platform can enhance the engagement of students in mathematics study. Twelve students tested a prototype website that offered unlimited AI-generated practice questions, adaptive difficulty, step-by-step solutions, and achievement-based gamification. Data were collected through pre- and post-tests, platform usage logs, and a qualitative feedback survey. Quantitative results showed a 40% improvement in post-test performance compared to the pre-test, though brief engagement times and limited testing duration call for cautious interpretation. Qualitative feedback revealed strong support for the step-by-step explanations and the ability to save questions, though some students voiced concerns regarding the reliability and repetitiveness of AI-generated questions. The findings suggest that while AI and gamification hold promise for supporting mathematics education, they cannot fully replace traditional learning methods but can serve as a valuable complement. Future improvements should focus on balancing adaptability with user control and ensuring that AI-generated content is varied, accurate, and appropriately challenging.
