Sammanfattning

Background: Elderly people constitute a growing share of the population and experience aging, which may involve changes in function and health that lead that increase care needs. At the same time, healthcare is rapidly digitalizing, and elderly people’s opportunities to use e-health vary depending on skills and access. E-health involves digital tools and electronic information exchange to promote health, and Sweden aims for international leadership by 2025. The Act on Accessibility to Digital Public Services requires inclusion, making it essential to understand elderly patient’s needs and strengthen participation. Purpose: The aim was to create an overview of elderly patients' experiences of e-health. Method: A literature review, it is based on 13 health science articles, it includes nine qualitative and four quantitative methods. Results: The results showed elderly patients were positive toward e-health as a complement to traditional care, improving self-care, health, ageing, and loneliness, though in person visits remained preferred. Conclusion: E-health can function as a supportive complement to traditional care, where the care relationship increases and usage is influenced by experience, digital competence, technical skills and access to the internet.
