Sammanfattning

Wide band gap semiconductor technology, such as silicon carbide (SiC), enables fast switching in power electronics but also tends to increase electromagnetic interference and voltage stress on connected equipment. To mitigate this, dv/dt filters are used, these designs introduce complex trade offs in efficiency, inductance, and magnetic saturation. This master thesis presents the design and optimization of an energy efficient hybrid dv/dt filter for SiC based inverter systems. It focuses on the design and energy optimization of ferrite based inductors. A Matlab simulation was developed to evaluate all the different losses and factors that can affect the system under varying operating conditions. The affect of core material, number of turns, and inductance was analyzed to find the most optimal operating point for the system. The results showed that the TDK E65/32/27 N97 ferrite core was the most optimal in terms of energy loss, saturation and size. Copper losses dominate at high current levels, while core losses dominate at lower current levels. The simulation also highlights the importance of using air gap, where it can be a useful tool to control the saturation and inductance levels. The study concludes that the proposed system design can provide a reliable foundation for a low loss hybrid dv/dt filter, suitable for high frequency SiC drive systems. Future work should focus on physical evaluation of the system and simulation refinement to try and include more parameters in the simulation.
