Sammanfattning

The purpose of this study was to examine whether social workers in financial assistance work with evidence-based practice and how they were using standardised tools with the four sources of knowledge. The purpose was also to examine how the standardised tools were working according to the social workers in financial assistance. The study was conducted using a qualitative method and approach. The method was conducted with seven semi structured interviews with social workers in financial assistance. The theories that were used to analyse the results were the theory of professions and professionalism. The results showed that they partly worked with evidence based practice, since they did not always use all the sources of knowledge. The results also revealed that the standardised tools had various advantages. The tools were good discussion material and professional approach. The results also identified weaknesses, including that the standardised tools delayed the work and that the social workers wished to rely more on their professional expertise. The conclusions of the study were that the guidelines and the lack of time related to standardised tools limited the work. The four sources of knowledge were not always used, which therefore hindered the possibility of working in accordance with an evidence-based practice.
