Sammanfattning

Higher education is currently experiencing a massive digital transformation, with Learning Management Systems (LMSs) playing a focal role, and Artificial Intelligence (AI) on the rise. The study aimed to investigate how higher education students' perceptions of LMS platforms relate to the integration of AI tools, assessing the possibilities for personalized learning against the drawbacks of trust and transparency. It employed a qualitative, interpretive approach to gather data through semi-structured interviews with master's students from various disciplines and then undertaking thematic analysis. The findings highlight a gap between how students currently experience LMSs, as static and impersonal, to the possibilities offered by AI-based tools, such as adaptive learning paths, individually tailored learning content, and intelligent interactive bots. While students believed that AI-based tools would help improve the learning experience, many expressed major concerns pertaining to data privacy and control. The study concludes that while AI shows promising potential to enhance learning, its impact is still conditional. Without clear data governance, user control, and transparency, it becomes difficult to translate positive experiences into meaningful LMS behaviors, as students may feel distrustful of the system. The fact that success relies not only in terms of operations, but that ethical, student-centered systems are required for a successful transition to AI.
