Sammanfattning

The construction and property sector accounts for a significant portion of Sweden's climate emissions. Borlänge Municipality aims to become climate neutral by 2030, and as part of this, the reconstruction of Skogstäppan has been procured with priority given to recycling as much as possible. Skogstäppan was previously run as a preschool, which was then converted into short-term accommodation and daily operations within LSS. Actors involved in the reconstruction were Borlänge Municipality, Skanska as the general contractor, Energismeden Re-eko AB as an expert in recycling, and other subcontractors. The study is based on investigating the contractor's, subcontractors' and professional workers' experiences of recycling in the project. What is being investigated are the experiences of involved actors on how recycling affects construction production and how working methods and production processes can be adapted to facilitate recycling in construction projects. The study also aims to identify the advantages and challenges of recycling to highlight improvement opportunities for similar projects in the future. This study has been conducted with a web-based survey and interviews with selected respondents, evenly distributed between professional workers and white-collar workers. Knowledge acquisition has been done by reviewing specialist literature and reliable sources from the internet. The results show both positive and negative experiences with recycling in construction production, as well as some differences between the experiences of white-collar workers and professional workers. Most negative experiences are about logistics, with inadequate transport and handling of the recycled materials when they arrived at the site, rather than the recycling itself. The positive experiences are generally about the functioning of the collaboration and that the view of recycling is fundamentally positive due to environmental impact. The results also show that requirements from clients are important for increased recycling, and that the client takes on the guaranteed responsibility for the work with recycling to work. The study shows that recycling has great potential in the construction industry, but that developed working methods, increased experience and improved logistics are required for recycling to be effectively integrated into construction production.
