Sammanfattning

This study examines integration among young adults in Sweden, focusing on individuals between 18 and 30 years of age who were not born in the country. The aim is to analyse how these individuals experience their integration process and what factors influence their sense of participation and belonging in Swedish society. The study is based on two questions: how young adults describe their experiences of integration, and what importance social networks and social capital have for their experience of integration. To answer the purpose of the study, a qualitative method in the form of semi-structured interviews is used. The empirical material consists of interviews with young adults who were chosen through a strategic selection. The interviews have been transcribed and analysed through thematic analysis to identify recurring patterns and themes in the participants' stories. The results show that integration is a complex process that is shaped by the interaction between individual experiences and structural conditions. Social networks and social capital appear to be central factors in creating opportunities for work, education and social participation, while obstacles such as limited access to the labour market and perceived discrimination can negatively affect the integration process. The study contributes with a deeper understanding of young adults' own perspectives on integration in Sweden and highlights the importance of both social relations and societal structures in the work of promoting inclusion.
