Sammanfattning

This study explores how individuals who, in their childhood, experienced parental intimate partner homicide, describe the support they received from social services and their surroundings. It also examines how their voices and wishes were considered in decision making. The study aims to increase the understanding of how society can better meet the needs of these individuals. The study is qualitative, based on an analysis of two autobiographies through a thematic analysis with an abductive approach grounded in theory of epistemic injustice. This study reveals that interactions with authorities and the community were crucial in shaping perceptions of support, yet the response was often inadequate. Furthermore, genuine participation was rarely achieved, as individuals’ perspectives were seldom considered in decisions affecting them. Overall, the study highlights a lack of knowledge and guidance regarding how society should adequately support and acknowledge those who experience intimate parental partner homicide in their childhood.
