Sammanfattning

The purpose of the study was to create an understanding of how Sami culture, identity and minority status are represented in Frozen 2 (2019) through the film’s narrative and visual expression. The study also focused on which symbols are connected to Sami culture and how the relationship between north-huldra and arendalle developed and reflected a representation of majority and minority. It was conducted with a qualitative semiotic analysis of three central scenes for the film. Based on the study´s empirical material and problem formulation, the study concluded that the north-huldra people in Frozen 2 (2019) represent Sami culture through a close-to-nature lifestyle, traditional clothing, yoik and connection mythology, which marks their cultural identity. In contrast, arandelle is presented as an organized majority culture with higher status and resources. The film initially reproduces differences between minority and majority, but the relationship develops towards understanding and cultural acceptance where the north-huldra people are included without arendelle´s majority structure being completely challenged.
