Sammanfattning

The aim for this thesis is to examine if and how Swedish libraries, through their library plans, have a strategy for what to do in the event of war and/or other types of crises. The reason behind this is to highlight the subject of the study and bring awareness to the found underutilization of the Swedish libraries in a crisis. The method of this study consists of a content analysis of eighty-two library plans from different parts of Sweden. Together with Eriksson-Zetterquist’s description of the new institutional theory and Nilsson’s three societal spheres, the analysis section is formed. It focuses especially on highlighted terminology found throughout the studied library plans, putting these in a larger, societal context. The findings show that the studied Swedish library plans lack a strategy for handling war and crisis situations. The awareness is in some instances present but is not a prioritized subject. The thesis argues that to be forewarned is to be forearmed and that additional studies and focus could be beneficial to the future of Swedish libraries.
