The thesis investigates the cleaning effect and how it differs when triammonium citrate and ascorbic acid is used separately and in combination, under the same concentrations, for the removal of rust stains on textile. An experimental method was used, conducted on artificially stained mock-ups in linen. The cleaning effect was evaluated by measuring the colour of the stains before and after cleaning to calculate a colour differences, ΔE00. No visual change in colour was observed after the test. However, a colour difference of the stains was ascertained by the colour measurements in all mock-ups. The biggest colour difference was measured for the mock-ups treated with the agents used together. It can be concluded that the cleaning effect increases when ascorbic acid and triammonium citrate are combined in comparison to when used separately. Prior to the tests preparatory tests was conducted outside of the study for guidance in deciding what concentration and pH to use. In these tests a clear visual change in colour was observed. Both the preparatory tests and the main tests show some cleaning effect. However, the difference in the cleaning effect between the preparatory and the main tests shows that more research needs to be performed.
