Care Cubed

Sammanfattning

Care Cubed makes an effort to realize the idea of a more caring world as described in The Care Manifesto (2020). The project also makes an effort to heal an urban wound, the border between Bredäng and Mälarhöjden in Stockholm. The project transforms an existing industrial structure threatened by demolition. The site is marked by strong class and racial segregation. The program consists of homes for older people, open repair workshops and rentable ateliers. A large canteen, an outdoor atrium and plenty of unprogrammed space connects them. The spaces offered to residents, artists and visitors are all in some way meant to force contact and foster care - for people known and unknown, your things and your environment - trying to heal the site. The existing structure has generous spans and large surface area but is dark and poorly insulated. Parts of the existing structure are dismantled and replaced by a new shell - bigger, triple glazed windows, new isolating curtain wall and an abundantly perforated glulam-ceiling.
