Manufacturing companies are increasingly using digital technologies to collect and useproduction data. Through the Industrial Internet of Things, IIoT, machines, systems and sensorscan be connected to enable monitoring, follow-up and improvement work. At the same time,access to data does not automatically mean that the information is easy to find, understand oruse in daily work. A chatbot can therefore function as a supporting interface between users andIIoT-related information. The purpose of the thesis is to investigate how a chatbot can beimplemented to support the use of IIoT in a manufacturing environment, with a focus oninformation access, user needs and practical conditions for implementation. The studyaddresses the challenges that exist, which aspects should be considered and how manufacturingcompanies can proceed with the implementation. The study has been conducted as a case studyat a global manufacturing company in the heavy vehicle industry. Data collection consisted ofinterviews, observations and document collection. The empirical material was analyzedthrough thematic analysis and linked to the study's theoretical framework. The results show thatthe challenges can be divided into human, organizational and technical challenges. Theseinclude user acceptance, trust, varying digital habits, division of responsibility, distributedknowledge, data quality, integration and verifiability. The study also shows that the chatbotshould be based on limited and quality-assured information sources and designed based on theusers' actual work tasks. The conclusion is that a chatbot can support the use of IIoT by makinginformation more accessible, understandable and useful in production-related situations.However, the implementation should be gradual through a clear area of use, quality-assuredinformation basis, user-centered design, pilot implementation and continued developmentbased on user feedback.Keywords: Chatbot, IIoT, Smart production, Information access, Implementation, Dataquality, Industry
