Sammanfattning
This study explores and compares the compositional styles of Giovanni Bottesini and Adolf Mišek, two significant composers in the double bass repertoire. The purpose is to examine how their musical backgrounds, historical contexts, and professional experiences influenced their works. The research is based on biographical study, analysis of selected compositions, and comparison of historical and musical factors such as form, harmony, rhythm, and instrumental technique. The findings reveal clear stylistic differences: Bottesini’s music is strongly influenced by virtuosity and operatic traditions, while Mišek’s compositions reflect his orchestral background and are structurally demanding, requiring stamina across the full range of the instrument as well as advanced right- and left-hand technique. These differences are further shaped by their respective environments, audiences, and musical influences. The study highlights how contrasting artistic contexts contributed to the development of distinct expressive and technical approaches in double bass music, offering valuable insights for performers and interpretation.
