Sammanfattning

This thesis examines the differences between smart and traditional Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems. It emphasizes energy efficiency, function, cost, and ecological consequences. The research in this thesis is theoretical and literature based, involving data from academic journals, technical whitepapers, and governmental publications. Despite their reliability, traditional HVAC systems have highly inefficient energy and comfort management HVAC systems because they rely on manual controls and fixed schedules. In contrast, smart HVAC systems utilize Internet of Things (IoT) devices, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and other algorithms to automatically optimize their operation for time, occupancy, weather, and energy prices. The analysis also indicates that smart HVAC systems have the potential to improve energy consumption by 30-50%, boost indoor air quality, and provide lower lifecycle costs with increased automation and predictive maintenance. Nonetheless, boundaries such as high initial investment costs, cybersecurity risks, and interoperability problems continue to be prevalent. This study set out with the goal of developing a comprehensive theoretical groundwork for guiding future research and planning of HVAC systems. Traditional systems retain value in defined situations; however, the analysis from this study smart HVAC systems technology demonstrates greater alignment with contemporary energy targets, incorporation into smart cities, and proactive environmental strategies.
