De professionella, våldsutövarna och behandlingen : En kvalitativ studie om behandlares professionella roll i mötet med våldsutövare

This study aims to examine how professionals working with treatment interventions for perpetrators of violence describe the tension between creating and maintaining a relationship with clients while simultaneously working to prevent the perpetrators from further committing acts of violence against their partners. The study also explores professionals’ descriptions of their professional role in interactions with clients. Seven professionals were interviewed, and the collected material was analyzed using a theoretic thematic analysis. Critical social work, with elements of feminist theory, was used as the theoretical framework for the analysis. The analysis resulted in three main themes and five subthemes. The findings indicate that professionals describe complex balance between establishing trust and a therapeutic alliance with clients while simultaneously addressing violence and emphasizing accountability. Furthermore, the results show that professionals use different strategies in the process of change, such as relationship-building, mapping of violent behavior and working with emotions and responsibility.
