Sammanfattning

This thesis attempts to showcase how property crimes evolved in Oskarshamn city and the Stranda district during the Second World War. The study attempts to showcase who did the crimes, what they did, and what punishment they received. This study also tries to showcase to what extent the criminal was in a vulnerable position or not. The source material used in this study to showcase the evolution of property crimes is official documents from both Oskarshamn city hall court and Stranda district court. In the documents, information about the convicted and their crimes was found. Name, profession, and what they did are things that are found there. To explain why people commit property crimes, there is a theory about exposure. The result is gathered in tables to give an overview of how property crimes changed during the Second World War. The results of this study showcase that the number of property crimes increased from the Second War. From there, the crimes were on an equal level during the rest of the war. It is mostly men from the working class who commit crimes. There are few cases where women have committed a crime. This study also showed that most of the people who got convicted were not in a vulnerable position. More crimes were charged in Oskarshamn city hall court than in Stranda district court.
