Sammanfattning

This thesis explores the sociomaterial dynamics involved in the migration process to a new library system, specifically focusing on the case of Quria, developed by Axiell and launched in 2017. Using a sociomaterial perspective the study examines how this technological transition affects the social structures within library organizations. The research is based on qualitative data collected through semi-structured interviews with library staff from six Swedish libraries that have transitioned to Quria, as well as with representatives from Axiell. The findings reveal significant changes for the library staff resulting from the system switch. The analysis is organized around themes such as time, space, relationships, and identity. The transition impacts work routines, professional identities, and organizational relationships, highlighting the reciprocal influence between technology and human actors. The concept of "digital capital" is introduced to analyse how the digital resources and skills possessed by the library staff affects their relation to the library staff. The study concludes that the system migration is not merely a technical transition but also a social transformation that reshapes the work environment and professional roles within the library. Successful implementation of such changes requires an understanding of the complex relationships that form the organization. Further research is suggested to explore the long-term effects of digital transformations in libraries and other public institutions.
