Sammanfattning

This thesis aimed to improve the user interface of the LAIsa planning tool for the Post Anaesthesia Care Unit (PACU) at University Hospital of Umeå, with the goal of increasing usability and intuitiveness. The tool is still under development, and the team at University Hospital of Umeå wished for a more user-friendly design, leading to this thesis collaboration. Using the iterative design framework Design Thinking, a new design was developed and suggested for LAIsa. Firstly, to empathize with the users a heuristic evaluation (based on Nielsen's 10 heuristics) and interviews were conducted for the current tool. Then from the results two versions of a MidFi prototype were produced. The given feedback from the evaluation of the MidFi prototypes was used to shape the final HiFi prototype that was a proof of concept for a future interface design for LAIsa. The user feedback from the evaluation of the HiFi prototype highlighted a need for visual and functional refinements, including clearer color coding, consistency in naming, as well as readability of the icon sizes and symbols. However, a System Usability Scale (SUS) score averaging 83.75, indicated an overall excellent rating, though individual scores varied. In conclusion, the evaluation of the HiFi prototype showed an overall high usability, but highlighted aspects of it that could be improved.
