This essay examines an education department at the Uffizi Galleries that offers cultural education for all groups, with a particular focus on reaching those who have not always been represented in the museum world in general. The purpose of the study is to describe multisensory norms in relation to developing and improving the range of cultural mediation and education offered in the various museum spaces. The study highlights both challenges and difficulties in the field of broadening participation. Based on interviews and memos, this study demonstrates an openness and willingness on the part of the museum's education department, which has resulted in new strategies for their development work to include more visitors and target groups. Another part of the study has been to note subtle power relations, in order to describe the struggle for public museum space and how multisensory norms can be understood as part of that struggle. The results and analysis are presented in six parts. The first part is a description of the location of the study, which describes the department's work with education and activities, followed by a brief history of the museum itself. This is followed by an introduction to the remaining sections, which describe several ongoing projects in various phases that include multisensory techniques. The aim is to show what is happening in the various projects that have been started within the museum, which demonstrate new strategies that promote cultural development that caters to more people, which is the basis for this study. In order to understand these challenges, a deeper understanding of knowledge spanning several disciplines is needed, with a subtle form of listening which is a contribution that follows in the final discussion, where social sustainability and the democratic perspective are also a necessity in the creative aspects of the activity. The result of my study is that multisensory techniques in museums contribute to both accessibility and broader participation, surrounded by democratic values, the combination of which is important for the future.
