Sammanfattning
This essay examines how the music works as a replacement of verbalcommunication in Robert Schneider’s novel Schlafes Bruder. In a society that largely avoids verbal interaction, the protagonist, the musical genius Johannes Elias Alder, learns to express himself through improvisations on the organ. From his early childhood experiences to his mastery as an organist, his music evolves into an intuitive and authentic form of communication. It can touch the audiences deeply without relying on shared linguistic frameworks, allowing him to express his emotions, thoughts and experiences. It shows that music works as a kind of universal language and an authentic form of human expression.
