Sammanfattning

The intranet has long been a central component of many organizations’ communication and knowledge infrastructure. Intranets have an inherent potential to help companies create, share, and manage knowledge, which has established them as an important organizational tool. However, their role in growing and changing environments, such as corporate mergers, is not self-evident. Against this backdrop, this study aims to investigate, through a case study of St1 Biokraft, how intranets can be structured and used communicatively to support knowledge management and sensemaking in a post-M&A-context. The study is based on empirical interview data and a supplementary survey completed by employees at St1 Biokraft. The results were analyzed using the Sensemaking and SECI models, thus offering both a hermeneutic and a process-oriented theoretical perspective. The results showed that the intranet’s greatest challenges lie in underlying organizational structures, rather than deficiencies in technology or operational communication, although these factors do play a role. For the intranet to effectively support sensemaking and knowledge sharing in an M&A context, there must be synergy between communicative and structural initiatives, where credibility, purpose, and navigation are central to increasing employees’ understanding and use of the platform.
