Sammanfattning
This thesis explores the laser cutter and it’s potential as a tool för contemporary furniture art with focus on bridging analog artistic expression and digital precision. Traditional decorative techniques like marquetry are often excluded from today’s fast-paced production due to being time-consuming. Through practical experiments using a laser cutter, this study evaluates four different art methods: marquetry, the stencil method, sgraffito and inkfill. The result demonstrate that while the laser cutter substantially reduces time spent doing it the traditional way, it functions best as an extension of the artisan’s hand. To retain a living, handcrafted aesthetic, a hybrid interaction is required: the process must begin analogously with the designer’s drawing and conclude analogously with the cabinetmaker’s material post-processing. In conclusion, contemporary digital craftsmanship emerges in the tension between human imperfection and digital exactness.
