Sammanfattning
This paper aims to address the research gap regarding the Swedish Social Democratic Party’s problem representations of honour related violence and oppression (HRVO) over time. Utilizing the research question “How has the Social Democrats’ problem representations regarding HRVO changed from 1998 to 2026, viewed from a postcolonial perspective on carceral feminism?” a qualitative text analysis is conducted using a modified WPR-tool to analyze the empirical material consisting of 39 party policies. Carceral feminism describes how feminist movements have committed to a law-and-order agenda where the carceral state acts as the enforcement apparatus for feminist goals. Therefor suggesting that a similar development, from welfare and rehabilitation to crime and punishment, would prove prevalent in the case of HRVO. Surprisingly, the results show that this development isn’t linear. In 2008 criminality rose to the agenda, only to disappear in 2014, and then make its comeback in 2019. The postcolonial perspective adds to this result by illuminating how discourse containing carceral feminism is closely intertwined with racialization of HRVO. Serving as an initial exploration of carceral feminism in Swedish party politics, these results can inspire further research regarding how other gender politics-problems have developed over time.
