Sammanfattning

The purpose of this study is to examine the networks and identities, as well as the subjective impressions and experiences, which are actualized in female ceramicists’ practices as artists and teachers in Stockholm. The learning and practice of ceramics as a creative craft is analysed using the body’s subjective experiences as a point of view. Both human and non-human actors are analysed, such as clay, creativity, and money. Norms and beliefs regarding gender and gendered physical qualities are connected to ceramic practices and norms. Different forms of communicating and socializing are analysed by defining the material clay as a motivating actor in situations of creative expression. In conclusion the material clay is proved to be highly active in transforming the ceramicists' experiences of creativity, social connections, and expressions of identity in their every-day lives.
