Sammanfattning

This thesis finds its core in Paulo Freire's educational philosophy and its practical implications on what is transformative teaching and what could be considered as good teaching. The thesis reflects on how some Freirean concepts could intersect with other perspectives on what could constitute good teaching, such as Kira Baker-Doyle's view on what she names Transformative Teachers. Both views are based in a context in which educators work in oppressive environments and where there is the need to spark hope amidst social challenges. The text highlights how the teacher-student figure, inspired by Freirean values, can create supportive and dynamic learning communities that resist and hack the banking system. By analyzing Freire's concepts of praxis, dialogue, and communication, along with the framework constructed by Baker-Doyle on Transformative Teachers, the thesis explores the history of Lucio in the film The Substitute, providing examples of how transformative teaching and its tensions could manifest.
