Sammanfattning

This case study aims to explore the perceptions, views and strategies used by the project managers of ”Hyllmeter åt kvinnorna” (”Shelf meters for the women”) when working with questions related to selection, appraisal and participatory archives within the project. Three questions were used for this purpose: how is selection and appraisal performed within the project, what factors underlie the criteria used for selection and appraisal, and how they involve the public in the project? The study was conducted through interviews with the two project managers working with the project, as well as a document study reviewing the project’s official blog, and two policy documents concerning the project. The collection and analysis of the data was performed using Terry Cook’s macro appraisal theory and Michelle Caswell’s method for feminist standpoint appraisal. The results show that the public currently is involved through the nomination process and the blog posts, and that the project uses a predefined set of criteria when doing the appraisal, which is performed through discussions about how well the nominations fit the criteria. The discussions are held between the members of the project and professionals in related fields that has been invited by the project to participate. The project managers are aware that the current methods used for nominating, selecting and appraising might cause a lack of representation in their collection, and wants to continue developing the project and reach a wider part of the public.
