This study investigates the thermal management of Lithium-Ion (Li-Ion) batteries arranged in arrays for electric vehicles (EVs) using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) analysis. The research aims to optimize the performance and safety of Li-Ion batteries by evaluating the effectiveness of a liquid cooling system in maintaining uniform temperature distribution and mitigating thermal gradients. ANSYS Fluent is employed to simulate the thermal behaviour of the battery array under various operating conditions, including different coolant flow rates, inlet temperatures, and battery configurations. The methodology involves CAD modeling, meshing, and CFD simulations to analyze heat dissipation and temperature profiles. Results demonstrate that reducing the number of batteries in the array leads to lower outlet temperatures, emphasizing the critical role of cooling system design in managing thermal challenges. The study concludes that liquid cooling systems are highly effective in enhancing the thermal performance of Li-Ion batteries, contributing to improved safety, efficiency and longevity in EV applications. The findings provide valuable insights for designing advanced thermal management systems, supporting the development of sustainable and reliable electric transportation technologies.
