While IoT devices have revolutionized various industries, they have also introduced significant security vulnerabilities. This review explores the complexities of implementing ZTM in IoT ecosystems. It investigates the obstacles encountered in implementing ZTM within IoT ecosystems and proposes strategies to address these challenges effectively. Beginning with an exploration of the diverse applications of IoT across industries, the study highlights its transformative impact on urban infrastructure, healthcare, manufacturing, transportation, and other sectors. Despite the myriad benefits of IoT, the inherent vulnerabilities and security risks associated with interconnected devices underscore the critical need for rigorous security measures, such as ZTM. Drawing on many existing literatures, this thesis identifies key challenges in implementing ZTM in IoT environments. These challenges include the complexity of IoT networks, diverse device capabilities, lack of standardized security protocols, and the dynamic nature of IoT ecosystems. Moreover, human factors such as user awareness and training are recognized as pivotal elements in successful implementation. Additionally, it highlights the role of emerging technologies like edge computing and artificial intelligence in ZTM adoption. Through a scoping literature review , we have delved into the challenges of implementing ZTM, authentication mechanisms, access control protocols, and vulnerability mitigation strategies within IoT environments. By addressing these challenges and adopting proactive security measures, organizations can strengthen the security and resilience of IoT ecosystems.
