Sammanfattning

The Integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) into User Experience (UX) design is rapidly growing and transforming the field. AI-powered tools have the potential to enhance the UX design process, offering new possibilities for efficiency and automation. However, despite its advantages, AI also introduces challenges related to control, design quality, and the designer’s role. This study explores how UX designers perceive and integrate AI into their workflows, with a focus on identifying both the benefits and limitations of AI tools in real-world practice. A qualitative research method was employed, involving a workshop with five UX professionals who used journey mapping to visualize their workflows and reflect on their experiences. The data was analyzed using inductive thematic analysis. Findings reveal that AI significantly enhances productivity in repetitive and time-consuming tasks, particularly in the Empathize, Define, and Prototype phases. However, designers expressed skepticism about AI’s ability to support tasks requiring creativity, empathy, and contextual understanding. Human-AI collaboration was described as an iterative and guided process, where designers refined and evaluated AI outputs rather than passively accepting them. Furthermore, trust in AI impacts its integration, shaped by concerns about ethical implications, quality of output, and loss of human-centric design values. As AI becomes more embedded in design practice, maintaining a balance between technological assistance and human oversight is essential. This research contributes to a more grounded understanding of AI’s evolving role in UX design, emphasizing the importance of maintaining human-centered values while integrating emerging technologies.
