Sammanfattning

This study maps the level of digitalization in Swedish construction projects at the project level and examines the activities and factors influencing it. Consequently, the study contributes knowledge regarding the practical application of digital workflows by employing an activity-based digitalization index as a measurement tool. The research was conducted using a combined quantitative and qualitative approach. Data collection consisted of a survey directed at site managers from Swedish construction projects, supplemented by in-depth interviews with representatives from highly digitalized projects. The results reveal an average digitalization index of 133.60 out of a maximum 240, indicating that projects are in an intermediate stage between manual and fully digital workflows. While digital methods are established with a grade of 59.4%, automation remains limited to 17.1%. New construction and larger projects generally show higher digitalization levels compared to ROT-projects and smaller projects. Time and resource planning emerged as the most digitalized activity, while 3D model visualization ranked lowest. The study concludes that development is uneven. Further progress requires clearer work routines and integrated information flows rather than simply implementing more digital systems. Keywords: Digitalization index, project level, mapping of digitalization
