Background: Induction of labor is a normal obstetric intervention that can be experienced as something positive or negative. Previous research shows that women's experiences of induction of labor can vary and are influenced by factors such as participation, information, support, and healthcare relations. Antonovskys theory about Sense of Coherence (SOC), consisting of comprehensibility, manageability and meaningfulness, may contribute to a deeper understanding of how women experience induction of labor and how healthcare can strengthen their experience. Aim: The aim was to compile factors influencing women’s experiences of induction of labour based on the three dimensions of Sense of Coherence: comprehensibility, manageability, and meaningfulness.Method: An integrative literature review was conducted in accordance with Whittemore and Knafl. Systematic literature searches were performed in the PubMed and CINAHL databases. Both qualitative and quantitative scientific articles were included. Quality appraisal was carried out using the Mixed Methods Appraisal Tool (MMAT), and data were analysed through thematic synthesis using SOC as the theoretical framework.Results: The results showed that women’s experiences of induction were influenced by access to clear and individualised information, opportunities for participation in decision making, continuous support, and the quality of the care relationship. Comprehensibility was strengthened when women understood the purpose and process of the induction. Manageability was influenced by experiences of control, support, and factors such as continuity of care and waiting times. Meaningfulness increased when women related the induction to the baby’s safety and reflected on the experience afterwards.Conclusion: Sense of Coherence appears to be a relevant theoretical framework for understanding and strengthening women’s experiences of induction of labour. A SOC oriented approach can support midwives in providing care that promotes autonomy, security, and participation, contributing to a more positive induction experience
