Lärares undervisning och de nationella proven i engelska : En intervjustudie med lärare i grundskolan årskurs 4-6

The purpose of this study is to shed light on how teachers in grades 4-6 of compulsory school perceive that the national tests in English influence their professional practice. The national tests are not optional, but rather a mandatory component added to the already heavily burdened workload of teachers. The study was conducted based on qualitative interviews with five practicing middle school teachers. The interviews were a mix of semi-structured and structured formats to gain a clear and nuanced understanding of the teachers' perspectives on the tests and their impact on their work. All the material was then analyzed and processed using a phenomenographic analysis model. Supported by previous research, the results indicate that the responses provided by the teachers in this study resemble those given by teachers in a similar study conducted fifteen years ago. The findings also reveal a wide variation in teachers' perceptions of the tests' validity and their effects.
