Sammanfattning

The study was conducted with the aim of identifying and compiling leadership practices that promote collaboration in virtual teams after the outbreak of the pandemic. Through a systematic literature review, research on leadership in virtual teams was analysed to develop an updated understanding applicable to project managers. The results indicate that leadership in virtual teams can be described as acting as a navigator, fostering interactive digital engagement, cultivating cohesion despite distance, and igniting enthusiasm for work. Key skills include planning, communication, relationship-building, adaptability, and the ability to engage and motivate the team. To foster collaboration in virtual teams, leaders should clarify roles and responsibilities, create opportunities for communication and collaboration, and cultivate a culture of safety and openness. By demonstrating trust, providing feedback, and adapting their leadership to the team and situation, leaders can effectively promote collaboration in virtual project teams. This thesis contributes insights that can enhance leadership in virtual teams and facilitate collaboration in a digital work environment post-pandemic.
