Love, sex ed + robots : Is Artificial Intelligence ready to answer young people’s questions about LGBTQ+ identities?

During adolescence, teenagers undergo an identity formation process, of which sexuality is a central element. Young LGBTQ+ people are especially vulnerable to struggle during this process. In this context, digital sexuality education has become more relevant, especially, AI-powered chatbots. Guided by queer theory, this study aimed to examine the advice provided by chatbots to adolescents questioning their sexual orientation or their gender identity. The results of the analysis show that this advice aligns with queer theory, is practical and is accurate. It cannot be concluded that it is age appropriate. The study argues that chatbots should be secondary to other support measures.
