Measuring performance in an evolving landscape: The case of Swedish elite ice hockey

This thesis examines how coexisting institutional logic and field-level dynamics shape performance measurement, interpretation and prioritisation in Swedish elite ice hockey clubs. Through a cross-sectional qualitative study interviewing club representatives from elite Swedish ice hockey clubs competing in the top tier of Swedish ice hockey with both men's and women's representation teams, we compare the two fields, the SHL and the SDHL, we show that enactment of internal performance measurement system takes different shapes in different fields. Additionally, by viewing clubs holistically, we find that a social logic can act both as a constraint and enabler of commercialisation in an inherently non-profit context.
