Sammanfattning

IEC 61850 is an international standard for communication in power utility automation, particularly in substations, providing a framework for seamless data exchange between Intelligent Electronic Devices (IEDs). It supports communication protocols like Generic Object Oriented Substation Event (GOOSE), Manufacturing Message Specification (MMS), and Sampled Value (SV), enabling efficient, real-time data transfer and enhancing system interoperability and performance. This paper discusses the selection of simulation software for simulating the IEC 61850 communication protocols, and ultimately uses OMNeT++ to simulate protocols including GOOSE, MMS, and their corresponding communication scenarios in the microgrid. Finally, it provides an analysis of the entire communication network’s traffic load and offers some optimization suggestions. The simulation model was built on the basis of OMNeT++/INET. The GOOSE protocol was directly built on the Ethernet layer. In order to better simulate the corresponding communication protocol, the structure of the GOOSE message was analyzed and reflected in various simulation parameters. Since the MMS protocol is built on top of the TCP/IP layer, the Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) protocol model in OMNeT++/INET was modified to directly simulate the MMS protocol. In the simulation process, the MMS message was represented by an overall payload size on top of the TCP protocol. The simulation data used is from Vattenfall’s Arholma microgrid and has been configured as Substation Configuration Description (SCD) files under different communication scenarios. These SCD files were further processed using script to extract relevant communication information and generate configuration files in ini format. Finally, by analyzing performance indices such as end-to-end delay and switch load under various communication scenarios, some recommendations for network were proposed.
