This thesis explores the exhibition design in the architecture- and designmuseum ArkDes inStockholm. The main purpose is to understand how the textile walls in the main exhibition room”the collection hall” relates to the materiality in the exhibited object. The thesis is based on ascenographic method and is analysed with a atmospheric theory which explores how a visitor isaffected by the materials, space and objects in the room. ArkDes has a collection of around fourmillion items and given the size of the collection, the focus will not be on specific objects. Instead,their materiality is what is important, and they are therefore treated neutrally in the essay. The essaydescribes the atmosphere of the main exhibition room, and how the room actively influences howvisitors encounter and experience its objects in relation to the textile walls.
