This study examines the impact of urban densification on green structure, focusing on availability, accessibility and usage pressure. The aim is to analyse how densification influences access to green spaces and their capacity to support urban populations. The study is based on a case study of a detailed development plan in Umeå and applies GIS-based methods, including network analysis, to compare current conditions with a future scenario. The results show that while the overall amount of green spaces increases, it largely consists of private spaces, limiting public accessibility. At the same time, usage pressure on existing public parks is expected to intensify due to the population growth. The study concludes that planning approaches based primarily on proximity risk overestimating the functionality of green spaces, highlighting the need to consider accessibility and capacity in urban planning.
