Politiska framställningar av gäng- och ungdomskriminalitet : En tematisk analys av svenska partiers texter

The aim of this study was to examine how the four largest Swedish parliamentary parties, based on the 2022 general election, constructed youth and gang-related crime and how they presented problem definitions and policy responses in political party documents. The study was conducted using a thematic analysis of material from the political parties´ official websites and parliamentary motions from 2023 to 2026. The results showed a shared framing of crime as a serious societal problem, but revealed differences in how its causes and its relation to society were understood. The Sweden Democrats and the Moderates framed crime as an external and culturally rooted issue, whereas the Social Democrats and the Left Party constructed it as an internal societal problem, which also influenced the policy measures that were legitimized. The analysis further identified a tension between problem definitions and proposed measures, as repressive interventions were frequently justified through deterrence.
