Sammanfattning

Exergames are a fun alternative to regulare exercise with differentusecases such as an alternative for standard exercise-basedphysical therapy programs or to just take a break at the office.Previous studies have created exergames where the player’smovement is used solely to progress through the game, ratherthan to actively navigate and control the character—leaving agap in how upper-body motion can serve as both a locomotionand directional control mechanism in a 3D environment. Inthis study RunningMan was created in Godot where the playerutilizes thier armmovements and shoulder rotation to controllthe game character and chase down theifs in a 3D environment.Player locomotion speed was mapped to arm movement cadence,while shoulder rotation governed directional navigationwithin the 3D environment. Game testing on 15 participantswas conducted where they chose thier perceived exertion onBorg’s RPE-scale and answered the Exergame EnjoymentQuestionnaire. After playing the game majority of participantsreported a perceived exertion between 11 and 16 with onlytwo participants reporting exertion levels of 8 and 9 respectively.The enjoyment score calculated from the EEQ rangedfrom 58 to 96 and together the participant reached 70.8% ofthe maximal enjoyment score. RunningMan successfully providedplayers with moderate-to-vigorous exertion levels andan engaging gameplay experience, though improvements tocontrol responsiveness and speed feedback remain necessaryto broaden its accessibility and effectiveness as an exergame.
