Sammanfattning

This thesis investigates scenographic lighting in fashion shows through selected case studiesdrawn from the 2025–2026 fashion seasons, with a focus on narrative construction and thematicexpression within performative spatial environments. I explore how light operates as a primarymedium for reinforcing storytelling, shaping atmosphere, and articulating the conceptualidentity of fashion presentations. Grounded in theories of lighting and spatial perception, light isapproached as an expressive tool that constructs emotional tone, spatial depth, and perceptualexperience through layered visual cues. The analysis examines how lighting guides attention, modulates atmosphere, and usesreflections and highlights to enrich visual texture without distraction. It further investigates howlight constructs spatial layering and depth, translating conceptual intent into a cohesive visualand narrative experience in fashion shows. Alongside this analysis, I adopt a design-ledapproach through a speculative reinterpretation of the KTH Library as a fashion show space for aconceptual “KTH apparel” presentation. This serves as a testing ground for applying lightingprinciples in a constructed scenographic context, combining analytical and creative methods todeepen both critical understanding and design practice in fashion scenography.
