Simulating Underwater Bubbles for VFX Production

Sammanfattning

This study examines underwater bubble creation techniques for visual effects (VFX) production. Its purpose was to closely analyse real-world references and develop art-directable systems for generating bubbles in computer-generated imagery. The methods outlined in the study were used to simulate underwater bubbles originating from an animated character. These included distinct phases of bubble behaviour: body trail bubbles, diving bubbles, and large bubble formations. Although the setups were tailored to a specific character, the techniques are generalisable across various use cases. The findings highlight and address several common challenges, improving both workflow and simulation efficiency. The results demonstrate that it is possible to produce visually convincing, production-ready results even with moderate system complexity.
