Sammanfattning

The following report examines the case of installing a fast charger for electric vehicles in combination with battery storage. It is then evaluated whether or not this could be a profitable solution. The system is active on the Swedish frequency regulation market, it operates through arbitrage trading aims to utilize peak shaving to balance the power flow. The project has been done by creating a system in the programming language Python. In the program different configurations of battery & charging stations has also been simulated. The power flow from the different scenarios has been examined throughout ayear, and from this revenue grid connection cost has also been calculated. The system hasbeen tested both with battery and charging stations combined, as well as with battery alone. In the case with only battery there is more space for trading on the ancillary service market, whilst when connected to a fast charger the charging of electric vehicles was prioritized. The system was also simulated to see how grid connection cost as well as revenue would be affected if the system instead of prioritizing charging, prioritized ancillary services. To simulate this the potential income from the ancillary services was not decreased to allow charging, but overload from charging was instead curtailed to the next time step of the simulation. By doing this the main fuse size used could be lower than if all the required charging were forced at once, since this often leads to the main fuse breaks due to overload. The simulations that examined the effect of curtailing the charging showed that it, fora few cases, could lead to an increase in revenue as well as a lower grid connection fee, although these differences were negligible if at all. Curtailing the charging would also increase the required charging time for clients. Due to the low savings this method resulted in, keeping clients satisfied can be seen as more profitable. The system generating the highest income was the one with maximal charging points, batteries and main fuse. The grid connection fee followed the systems increase in revenue. A higher charging load did not contribute to the income from the ancillary services being significantly decreased.
