Sammanfattning

Background Pressure ulcers is a serious and a common healthcare injury that causes extensive pain and suffering for the patient, prolongs hospital stay and increases costs. The nurse has a primary responisbility to work proactively and be aware of patientrisk to prevent health care related injuries. Aim The purpose of this literature review is to describe the nurse’s preventive measures for pressure ulvers in inpatient care. Method This literature review is written as a structured literature review. The analysis was done by using Friberg’s method of literature analysis. 14 articles have been included and are retrieved from the databases CINAHL and PubMed. The articles were of quantitative and qualitative design. Results The results showed that assessments and patient-centered interventions were preventive measures for nurses. Interventions tailored to the patient can prevent the occurance of pressure ulcers. Conclusions The nurse’s pressure ulcer prevention work is based on early risk assessment and adapted measures. By integrating these factors, the nurse can reduce the patient’s suffering, improve care and reduce the occurance of pressure ulcers.
