SMARTARE ÄN ETT ELUTTAG? : En kvalitativ intervjustudie om artificiell intelligens påverkan på energiförbrukning och hållbarhet i Sverige

This study emphasizes AI’s energy consumption in the four Swedish energy areas to understand how much AI affects the total energy production in the country and if the drastic development of AI aligns with the Swedish sustainability goals of Agenda 2023. The study is conducted through a qualitative interview with respondents from the AI and digitalization field and Swedish energy production organizations to create a feasible result. As a result of the interviews and collection of empirical sources, AI is currently and will continue to affect Swedish energy production through major investments in data warehouses that are being constructed in the country. The main reason why AI drains Swedish energy production is caused by the continuous training and development of AI's capacity. Therefore, we can conclude from the collected results of the study that AI might only be another consequence for the environment if it’s developed through data warehouses that are powered by unsustainable energy methods.
