Supporting Group Interactionin Museums: The Design of a Shared Audio Guide with Collaborative Game Mechanics

This thesis explores the design and evaluation of a shared audio guide on a mobile platform, enhanced with a collaborative quiz, aimed at promoting group engagement in museums. Traditional audio guides focus primarily on individual experiences, leaving limited room for social interaction and cooperative learning. By integrating a quiz that summarizes group responses, the prototype encourages discussion, shared decision-making, and cooperative engagement. The system allows users to toggle audio synchronization, observe group progress, choose audio language and participate in collaborative quizzes with minimal disruption. A small-scale evaluation was done with three participant groups, using a combination of the User Experience Questionnaire (UEQ) and semi-structured interviews to assess usability, user experience, and group interaction. Results indicate that the application was generally intuitive and easy to navigate, with the collaborative quiz contributing positively to group engagement.
