“Svensk är den som andra svenskar uppfattar som svensk” : En diskursanalytisk undersökning av Sverigedemokraternas syn på samhällsproblem kopplat till grupper och sociala kategorier mellan 1989-2026

Sammanfattning

The focus of this study has been on the political party “Sweden Democrats” and their discourse surrounding societal problems in relation to groups and social categories. The questions this study was based on are 1) “How have the Sweden Democrats discourses of societal problems changed in between the years 1989-2026? and 2) What or who do the Sweden Democrats view as a “threat” to the Swedish society between 1989-2026? The material used in this study is political texts written by the party itself.The methodology used for this study is a discourse analysis that studies populism as a “thin-centered” ideology combined with Carol Bacchi’s ‘What’s the problem represented to be’. Prior studies have shown that anti-migration rhetoric in Europe has focused on alterity and proximity to decide which migrants are welcome and those who are not. The discourses have focused on the means of transport and descriptions of migrants as a “mass” as a way to de-agentify the migrants.This study has shown that even though the Sweden Democrats discourse has remained mainly the same throughout the years there are some changes. The discourses has through the years focused on culture, where some cultures have been deemed incompatible with Swedish culture and have therefore been constructed in a negative way. The societal problems, that this paper has studied, have been connected to, or described as a consequence of "mass migration" to Sweden. In 2011 there is a change in the discourse where not only culture is problematized. From 2011 and forward, islam is described as a problem and problematized by equating it to the fundamental and extremist ideology of islamism. Criminality is also described to have a connection to islamism.
