Sammanfattning

This thesis investigates how a test rig capable of measuring both angle and force using sensors could be designed and constructed. The project aims to develop a functional prototype that is not intended for production, and where aesthetics are not taken into consideration. Functionality is the sole priority. The purpose of the rig is to facilitate the testing and evaluation of mechanical end-stops used in steer-by-wire systems. The work follows a product development process using several established methods, including Double Diamond, Pugh’s Matrix, MoSCoW, and PBS. Since no existing test rigs were available for comparison, significant emphasis was placed on identifying and defining the requirements and structure of the rig from the ground up. The final result fulfills seven out of eleven requirements in the specification, several of which are classified as function-critical. Among the unmet requirements is adjustability, which would have simplified the calibration and positioning of the zero point. Future work includes implementing motor-driven torque application instead of manual operation, as well as acquiring a more robust load cell, since the current sensor can only withstand approximately 50 newtons.
