Quay crane operations are a critical yet challenging component of port automation. These complex systems must operate reliably despite unpredictable factors like environmental conditions, data loss or incorrect bay plans. This work presents a MATLAB simulation environment that integrates both the mechanical dynamics and electrical characteristics of quay cranes, providing a solid foundation for future development of automated solutions for these systems. Its configurability and flexibility allow testing a wide range of scenarios, supported by a visualisation tool that provides an intuitive way to interpret results. Wind is included as a configurable disturbance within the simulation environment, enabling evaluation of its impact on crane operations. Given its significance, incorporating it helps build a better understanding of the challenges it poses to overall system performance.
